Bobby Chance

What I've been up to since my days in the Children of the Light: After my season of ministry with Children of the Light came to a close, Dot and I were called to the streets of Hollywood to work with a front line street ministry called The Holy Ghost Repair Service. After 5 years of ministering to Hollywood's runaways, teen prostitutes, pimps and gangs, Dot and I birthed Streetwise Ministry.

Streetwise Ministry is a multi-faceted ministry that takes Jesus into the ghettos and hellholes of America and the world. I have been blessed to minister in the ghettos and inner-cities of America, the streets of Russia, Mexico, Canada, Haiti and Myanmar (Burma).

We feed the homeless and poor, and we take Jesus across the street, across the nation and around the world. We are planning an upcoming ministry trip to Malawi, South Africa.

My favorite Children of the Light memories: I have thousands of favorite Children of the Light memories. Once in Utah or Idaho or Wyoming or somewhere on tour, we got loopy and bought packs of Black Cat firecrackers and started setting them off in the van as we traveled. I remember the old zebra-style fabric couch we used as an extra seat in the van as we traveled thousands and thousands of miles to play our music that uplifted Jesus to those who came to hear.

I remember playing concerts with Barry McGuire, Keith Green, Randy Matthews, Petra and lots of other bands who were blazing a musical trail for Jesus.

Probably my fondest memory was the day I came to meet the band the day before I auditioned. I was touched to my soul to meet four amazingly talented musicians, singers and prolific songwriters who loved Jesus with all their hearts and talked about Him just like He was their best friend. (The fact the music was country-rock was just icing on the cake).

My Children of the Light brothers taught me how to love Jesus, serve Him with all my heart and worship Him through music for the world to see. I think we were a very successful band, not because we made very much money or sold zillions of records... but simply because we were sold out to Jesus and we would go anywhere He asked us to, travel in a van with a trailer full of musical equipment from LA to Maine and back, so we could sing about Him. I will never forget it!! (We always had Phil Keaggy, Michael Omartian or Barry McGuire on cassette tape playing in the van... or was it 8 track??).

Something I'd like you to know about me: Although I don't deserve it, Jesus saved me by His grace while I was yet a sinner. I am forever grateful to Him for pouring His forgiveness, love and mercy into my life. Jesus called me to be the husband of the greatest wife in the world, my awesome wife Dot. She is the love of my life, my partner in life and ministry.

He also called me to be the father of our three amazing daughters, Amy Faith, Molly Renee and Emily Rose. As the crowning glory, Jesus has allowed me to be the grandfather to the 3 most outrageously awesome grandkids in the world... Bobby Dakota, Abel Wesley and Elliot Rose. I am blessed beyond measure!!

My favorite things:

If I could spend time with any historical person...it would be Mother Teresa... she had an amazing calling to and affinity for the poor. I would want to receive from her a greater heart and compassion for the poor and dying. Jesus said, "I have been anointed to preach the Gospel to the poor." I believe when you touch the poor you touch the heart of God.
